Barclays is a major global financial services provider engaged in retail and commercial banking, credit cards, investment banking, wealth management and investment management services with an extensive international presence in Europe, the Americas, Africa and Asia. With over 300 years of history and expertise in banking, Barclays operates in more than 50 countries and employs approximately 155,000 people. Recognised as a pioneering, customer-focused organisation, we innovate with our products and services and provide unrivalled career prospects for employees. Barclays has a highly respected in-house legal function and is recognised externally and internally for the quality of its legal advice. The department includes a first class Legal HR team dedicated to supporting the Global Retail and Commercial Bank (“GRCB”) on all legal issues in the domain of employment and human resources. Reporting to the General Counsel for GRCB, we now wish to appoint an outstanding lawyer to lead the GRCB Legal HR team. As Head of GRCB Legal HR, you will manage a team of employment lawyers in the provision of advice to GRCB’s senior management on employment matters and related issues on a UK and global basis. You will be responsible for leading the provision of legal advice across the full spectrum of both contentious and non-contentious employment law issues, taking the lead and working with your team as required. Working closely in conjunction with GRCB’s HR Director and other senior members of the GRCB HR team, it is critical you are able to provide proactive, strategic advice whilst recognising the need to identify and manage risk appetite. This will include highlighting, and advising on GRCB’s response to, proposed HR legislation and regulation likely to be relevant to GRCB. We are looking for a highly accomplished performer, with broad employment law experience. Such experience will have been gained in the context of advising substantial multinationals/FTSE 100 companies on their employment law and HR-related issues. Whilst not essential, experience of having advised in multinational unionised environments would be advantageous. You will have demonstrable experience, both of advising at senior management level, and of managing teams of lawyers, both in relation to their day-to-day work, and in the context of their overall supervision and career development. As an individual, you will display leadership skills, gravitas, agility, commercial pragmatism, an ability to inspire confidence at all levels, and both the drive and maturity required to deliver results under pressure. Unlike many in-house positions, Barclays offers its lawyers genuine career opportunities across its global legal function. As an organisation we are committed to long-term career development and our successful employees are rewarded both professional and financially. |
